ACCEF No. 14 Elementary Schoo (美华l松云小学) is located in HongFeng
village, ChongQing county, Sichuan province in
China. The donation for the school came from couple
Hongyue Zhang /Jianqui Yu (张宏跃/虞剑秋).
The school currently has 5 teachers at an average of 51.8 years old. It has four classes, including a
preschool class. There are 137 students, including 69 female students. The Tujia Minority children are
accounted for more than 70%. The school provides education to the children in a couple of villages with
a population of 4700 people. An annual increase of school-age children is about 40. As the building
and the construction of the school and cafeteria for teachers and students are far overdue, plus the
lack of funds has to be remedied, the school has been in a deplorable state. The wall is tilted and the
roof is corrupted. Especially in the rainy day with roaring winds, the interior it can be felt interiorly
the trembling of the building. While it rains heavily outdoor, it rains lightly indoor. Some of the equipment
has also been severely damaged. In 2004, it was identified by the departments as a dangerous building for
the C-class. The life of teachers and students has been seriously threatened. The parents and teachers are
more and more concerned about the safety.
The disaster earthquake in May 2008 in Sichuan, China has made the situation even worse. It is almost
impossible for the teachers and students to use the school. Now, the local education board is working with
ACCEF to rebuild the school. It is estimated to cost over 180,000 RMB to rebuild the school. ACCEF will
sponsor 120,000 RMB and the local education board will cover the rest, coordinate and supervise the rebuild
project. The new school will consist of four classrooms, one teacher’s office, one library, one laboratory,
one cafeteria and two rest rooms.
