ACCEF No. 8 Elementary School is located in Yutai village, Wanzhou District, Chongqing in China. There are 78 elementary school students, 22 kindergarteners and 6 teachers in it.
Although the school is small, it has a very long history that can trace back to Qing Dynasty in 1901. There are 5 classrooms built in 1960s and now they have been identified as "dangerous houses" already. As the county government doesn't have enough money to rebuild the school building, some students are obliged to redirect to other school, which is far away for the young kids. Other facilities such as the sports field and many desks also need to repair.
In order to help the students to have new classrooms,
American Sun Yat-Sen Spartacus Charitable Trust
donated
73,800 RMB (about US$10,000) through ACCEF
to help rebuild the school. The total rebuilding budget is about
112,500 RMB. The rest of budget will be sponsored by the local government and local volunteers.
Here're some pictures and documents showing how the school is rebuilt. The school
still under construction.
